Ross County manager Don Cowie hails performances of key players like Ronan Hale and Noah Chilvers in win over Motherwell in Dingwall
Ross County manager Don Cowie has hailed the impact of his key performers in the club’s 2-1 win over Motherwell last Saturday.
Goals from Ronan Hale and Josh Nisbet, who was named the sponsor’s man of the match, helped the Staggies to their third league victory of the campaign.
However, Noah Chilvers was also extremely impressive, while George Harmon did well in his first match back after two months out with injury.
Cowie thought all of those names did very well, but revealed that Hale in particular had been saying he was due a goal – with his strike at the weekend his first in six games.
“He kept telling me he was due one,” Cowie commented.
“He has been frustrated that he hasn’t scored for a few games, but he is always in the right position.
“Hopefully his goal today sets him off on another good run.”
Cowie had earlier pleaded patience with Chilvers, who signed for County relatively late in the summer transfer window and therefore had no pre-season to build up his fitness.
However, County’s manager believes fans are beginning to see the best of the former Colchester United star.
“He was terrific, and he was very hard done by not to start against Dundee United,” Cowie said.
“It was just the dynamics that I wanted in the team, but today he really drove the team on.
“I thought he was quiet in the first 20 minutes, but is shot gave everyone that lift.
“That’s what I keep demanding off him. We see that he can be a real threat, and it’s just about replicating that on a consistent basis.”
As for Harmon, he got 81 minutes on his return from injury, and Cowie thought it was a typically strong performance from the wing back.
“George has been tremendous since he came to this club,” Cowie added.
“He came from a part-time environment, and he probably played a lot more than we thought he would at first.
“I was keen to start him today because he has been bright in training, and you see the impact he can have.
“Eli had been away on international duty, so I thought it was a natural change to make, and George didn’t disappoint.”
